1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1/4 c. chopped green pepper
2/3 c. ketchup
1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp ground mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
8 slices Texas toast or hearty white bread
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
4 tbsp butter
HOW TO MAKE SLOPPY JOE GRILLED CHEESE
Step 1: To a nonstick pan, add the ground beef and cook over medium heat, breaking it apart using a wooden spoon as it cooks. Once crumbled, add the onion and green pepper to the beef. Continue to cook until the beef is no longer pink and the onion and pepper are tender.
Step 2: To the pan with the beef, add the ketchup, dry mustard, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper. Stir well until incorporated and continue to cook for 5 minutes more over medium-low heat. Take out of the heat.
Step 3: Spread 1/4 cup cheese on top of each sandwich, top with the sloppy joe mixture, then put the second piece of bread over.
Step 4: Ready the griddle or nonstick pan. Heat it over medium heat. To the pan, melt half tbsp butter. Once melted, place the sandwich over the butter and cook until the bottom is golden. Using a spatula, lift the sandwich, adding another half tbsp butter down. Then, continue to cook the sandwich until the cheese has melted.
