1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
2 eggs
1 lb ground beef
2 tsp dry mustard
2 tsp garlic powder
1 c. potato chips, smashed
Salt and pepper
Gravy:
4 dashes Worcestershire
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 whole onion, thinly sliced
Salt and pepper
2 c. beef broth, more if needed for thinning
How to make Salisbury Steak
Hamburger Patties:
Step 1: Mix the ground beef with eggs, potato chips, dry mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper using your hands until completely blended. Then, shape the mixture into four hamburger patties.
Step 2: Heat the butter and olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet and fry for about 5 minutes on each side until no longer pink in the centre.
Step 3: When done, take the patties off the skillet and drain the excess grease.
Gravy:
Step 4: Adjust the heat to medium, then add the sliced onions into the now-empty skillet. Stir and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes or until golden brown and slightly softened.
Step 5: Whisk the beef north and cornstarch in a small bowl until well mixed. Stir this into the beef broth along with the Worcestershire sauce. Let everything come to a low boil until the sauce has thickened and reduced.
Step 6: Add extra broth if the sauce turned out too thick.
Step 7: Nestle the cooked hamburger patties to the gravy and spoon some gravy over. Simmer for a few minutes.
