If you’ve always wanted to make bread, this recipe is a start. No fancy equipment, nor ingredients, only a perfect bread with a golden, crusty interior that is an excellent pair to your favourite hearty soup.

Ingredients

2 c. lukewarm water

2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

½ teaspoon salt

4⅓ c. all-purpose flour

1½ teaspoons garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

1 c. shredded cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons olive oil divided

course salt

dried parsley

How to make No-Knead Skillet Cheese Bread

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, mix the water and yeast.

Step 2: To the yeast mixture, add in a cup of flour. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture until combined.

Step 3: Mix in the garlic powder, onion powder, and cheese.

Step 4: A cup at a time, add in the rest of the flour, beating until well incorporated.

Step 5: Use plastic wrap to cover the bowl. Set aside to rise for about an hour.

Step 6: Meanwhile, to an 8-inch cast-iron skillet, add a tbsp olive oil. Swirl to coat both the bottom and sides of the skillet.

Step 7: Flour your hands lightly, then shift the dough to the prepared skillet.

Step 8: Form the dough into a round disk, then tent with a towel. Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes.

Step 9: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees F.

Step 10: Over the dough, drizzle a tbsp olive oil and sprinkle with salt and parsley. Using a knife, score the top of the loaf. Place inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes until the top is golden brown.

Step 11: After removing the bread from the oven, quickly flip it out onto a cooling rack and cool completely.

Step 12: Slice and serve. Enjoy!
