Italian Sub Sandwiches

by Rebecca February 3, 2022

PREP TIME: 10 MINS | COOK TIME: 25 MINS | TOTAL TIME: 35 MINS | SERVINGS: 6 sandwiches

These Italian Sub Sandwiches are my favourite! They are a nice addition to any party spread alongside my favourites macaroni salad and pesto. I have seen many people dress their sub sandwiches differently. My favourite is this Italian version with capicola hot ham, genoa salami, banana peppers, gooey provolone cheese, and the Italian dressing brings everything together! These are my go-to game-day meal that is so satisfying and delicious! They are also perfect for entertaining the kids! Make sure to serve these Italian Sub Sandwiches right away with Italian dressing as a dipping (you can also add it to the sandwich after baking).

Ingredients

18 slices capicola hot ham

6 hero rolls, sliced length-wise but leaving both sides of the roll attached

18 slices genoa salami

6 slices provolone cheese

1 c. banana peppers, sliced

Optional, for serving: shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, pepperoncini, olives, red onions

Italian dressing for serving

How to make Italian Sub Sandwiches

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees. Into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan, place the rolls, open-side up. Place in the preheated oven and bake the rolls for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Onto the bottom of each roll, place three folded slices of capicola hot ham, then top with a layer of three folded pieces of salami.

Step 3: Between the six sandwiches, divide the sliced banana peppers.

Step 4: Fold each provolone cheese, breaking it in half, and place it over the banana peppers.

Step 5: Continue to bake for additional 20 minutes. When done, remove from the oven and serve right away with the Italian dressing. Enjoy!

Notes:

Serve these sandwiches hot and fresh. You can wrap any leftovers in plastic wrap or keep them in a resealable plastic bag. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days.

To reheat, pop in a 350 degrees F oven for about 5 to 10 minutes, wrapped in foil.
