Hamburger Helper has been one of my favourite and go-to dishes for years now. There is nothing to complain about because this is one of the best Pasta and ground beef dishes clothed in creamy tomato and cheese sauce! This is a very satisfying meal and an excellent version of one of the classic meals.

INGREDIENTS

1 lb lean ground beef

2 c. pasta shells (can also use elbow pasta)

1 garlic clove, minced

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 large yellow onion, chopped

2 c. low sodium beef broth

1 8-ounces can tomato sauce

1 tsp seasoned salt

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1/2 tsp garlic powder

2 c. shredded cheddar cheese

½ c. heavy cream

salt and pepper, to taste

How to make Homemade Hamburger Helper

Step 1: Cook the ground beef in a large saute pan with a lid over high heat. When done, set the cooked ground beef aside, reserving 2 tbsp grease in the pan.

Step 2: In the now-empty pan, add the onion and cook for about 5 minutes. In the last 30 seconds, add the garlic. Then, stir in the flour and continue to cook for a minute more. Gradually stir in the beef broth, then bring everything to a boil.

Step 3: To the pan, add the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and pasta. Stir well until blended. Put the lid on and cook for about 12 to 15 minutes or until the pasta is done, stirring often.

Step 4: Remove the cover and add the cream and cheese. Stir well until the cheese has melted. Return the ground beef to the pan and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 5: Serve right away. Enjoy!

NOTES:

You can add a little water or beef broth if you need more liquid for your pasta.

For this recipe, you can use other varieties of pasta of similar size.
