How to make Chinese Orange Chicken

To make the orange sauce:

Step 1: Heat the orange juice, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and red chilli flakes in a medium pot for about 3 minutes.

Step 2: Add a tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water in a small bowl. Whisk well to make a paste. Add in the orange juice and stir to mix. Cook for another 5 minutes until the mixture has thickened. Remove from the heat, then add in the orange zest.

To make the chicken:

Step 1: In a shallow dish or pie plate, place the flour and cornstarch with a pinch of salt. Stir well.

Step 2: In a shallow dish, whisk the eggs.

Step 3: In the egg mixture, dip the pieces of chicken, then in the flour mixture. Place the coated chicken pieces on a plate.

Step 4: In a heavy-bottomed pot, heat about 2 to 3-inches oil over medium-high heat. Check the oil temperature using a thermometer. Once it reached 350 degrees, add the chicken in batches to the hot oil and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown. Make sure to turn the chicken pieces often.

Step 5: To a paper-towel-lined plate, transfer the cooked chicken.

Step 6: Toss the chicken with the orange sauce.

Step 7: If desired, garnish with green onions and orange zest. Serve with rice. Enjoy!
