Nothing is more comforting than this American Goulash. A popular American dish with stewed beef, tomatoes, and macaroni noodles. It is a hearty meal, a perfectly economical dish that is so satisfying and easy to make! It’s a fantastic one-pan meal that will always be part of our favourite rotation!
Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion diced
4 cloves garlic minced
2 cups elbow macaroni noodles uncooked
3 cups water
1 tablespoon beef base or bouillon
2 15-ounces cans of tomato sauce
2 15-ounces cans of diced tomatoes (one petite diced)
3 bay leaves
2 tablespoons Italian Seasoning
2 teaspoons paprika
1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
1 tablespoon Seasoned salt
Fresh Italian parsley chopped
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons soy sauce
TO MAKE AMERICAN GOULASH
Step 1: Cook the ground beef in a large stockpot until brown. Set the browned beef aside. Drain the excess when done, leaving about 1 to 2 tbsp of grease in the pan.
Step 2: Add the diced onion to the same pan and saute in the beef grease for about 5 minutes over medium heat until the onion has softened, Then, add the garlic and continue to cook for a minute more until aromatic.
Step 3: Return the ground beef in the pot, then pour in the water, beef base, and add the cans of tomatoes and sauce, soy sauce, bay leaves, seasoned salt, Italian seasoning, paprika, and black pepper. Give everything stir and bring to a boil. Cover and adjust the heat to low. Allow the mixture to simmer for approximately 20 minutes.
Step 4: To the pot, add the noodles and toss. Cover the pot again and simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the noodles are al dente.
Step 5: To serve, add the cheese, stir, and garnish with some fresh parsley. Enjoy!
