12 ounces gluten-free pasta of choice
½ pound bulk mild Italian sausage + 1/2 pound ground beef (may use 1 pound ground meat of choice)
1 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
1 24-25 ounces jar sugar-free marinara sauce
1 1/2 c. mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
Fresh basil, optional
How to make 5-Ingredient Baked Ziti
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Ready a 9 x 13-inch baking dish or two 9 x 9-inch baking dishes (if freezing one). Grease and set aside.
Step 3: To a skillet or saute pan, add the ground beef. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking the meat using a spatula as it cooks until no longer pink. If needed, drain the excess grease from the meat.
Step 4: Using a slotted spoon or spatula, transfer the meat mixture to a paper towel-lined plate.
Step 5: In the meantime, cook the pasta in a large pot with boiling water for about 10 to 11 minutes or until al dente. If planning to freeze the pasta, cook it even a bit more al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta and place it into the prepared pan. Or if using two pans, split the pasta.
Step 6: To the pan with the noodles, add the meat, Italian seasoning, marinara sauce, and 3/4 cup cheese. Gently stir, then sprinkle with the rest of the 3/4 cup cheese.
Step 7: Tent the pan with foil, place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
Step 8: In the last 10 minutes of cooking, remove the foil to allow the cheese to melt.
Step 9: If desired, garnish with fresh basil. Enjoy!
Notes:
If planning to freeze, prepare the Ziti through step 6. With foil, tightly cover the pan and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When ready to serve, thaw in the fridge overnight. Bake in a 400 degrees F oven for about 35 to 45 minutes. Or bake frozen at 400 degrees F for about 60 to 70 minutes until completely hot.
