Prep Time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 25 mins | Total Time: 35 mins | Servings: 4

These are crazy delicious pieces of chicken grilled on skewers and clothed in a sweet and savoury glaze. The perfect appetizer or main course that you can whip up anytime, quick! If you love Asian foods, I am pretty sure that you’ll also enjoy this hearty chicken yakitori.

INGREDIENTS

Skewers:

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 1/4 lbs chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces

1 tbsp green onions sliced

1 tsp sesame seeds

salt and pepper to taste

Sauce:

1 tbsp honey

1/4 c. soy sauce

1/4 c. brown sugar

1/2 c. water

2 tsp minced garlic

2 tsp minced ginger

1 tsp toasted sesame oil

1 tbsp + 1 tsp cornstarch

1 tbsp rice vinegar

How to make Yakitori

To make the sauce:

Step 1: In a small pot, add the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, honey, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Cook over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved. Then, adjust the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 2: Whisk the cornstarch and 2 tbsp cold water until completely dissolved. Stir this into the sauce and continue to boil for another minute or two until the sauce has thickened.

To prep the chicken:

Step 3: Make sure to soak the skewers in cold water for a few minutes before starting to thread the chicken pieces. To taste, season the chicken with salt and pepper. Lastly, brush some vegetable oil on the skewers.

Step 4: To medium heat, preheat your outdoor grill or grill.

Step 5: Lay the chicken on the preheated grill and cook for about 4 minutes on each side. Over the chicken, brush the sauce and continue to cook for another 2 minutes per side. Again, brush the chicken with more sauce and cook for a minute more on each side.

Step 6: When done, brush the chicken with the final layer of sauce, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

Step 7: Serve and enjoy!
