INGREDIENTS

Skewers:

1 1/4 lbs chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces

salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 tsp sesame seeds

1 tbsp green onions sliced

Sauce:

1/4 c soy sauce

1/2 c water

1/4 c brown sugar

2 tsp minced garlic

2 tsp minced ginger

1 tbsp honey

1 tsp toasted sesame oil

1 tbsp rice vinegar

1 tbsp plus 1 tsp cornstarch

How to make Yakitori

Sauce:

Step 1: In a small pot, place the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, honey, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Heat over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.

Step 2: Adjust the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 3: Combine the cornstarch and 2 tbsp of cold water. Whisking until the cornstarch has dissolved. Stir this into the sauce and boil for a minute or two more until thick.

Chicken:

Step 1: Onto the skewers that have soaked in cold water, thread the chicken pieces. Season with salt and pepper, and brush the chicken with the vegetable oil.

Step 2: Ready your outdoor grill or grill pan. Preheat it to medium heat.

Step 3: Place the chicken on the grill and cook for about 4 minutes on each side. Over the entire chicken, brush the sauce and continue to grill for 2 minutes more on each side.

Step 4: Brush the chicken with extra sauce and cook for a minute more (per side).

Step 5: Again, brush the chicken with the final layer of sauce, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve and enjoy!
