Tuna melt to the next level! Combine the perfect tuna salad and add delicious mozzarella, then grill the buttered sandwich on the stove. I promise this recipe will bring your end game to the top!

Ingredients

softened butter

20 oz. tuna in water or oil, drained (four 5 oz. cans)

½ celery stalk, chopped (about ¼ c.)

3 tbsp olive oil, divided

1 clove garlic, minced (or ½ tsp ready minced garlic)

5 tbsp mayonnaise

½ c. mozzarella, shredded

1 tbsp parsley, chopped

1 medium onion, chopped (about ½ c.)

12 slices bread

salt and pepper, to taste

How to make Tuna Melt

Step 1: Start by draining the water or oil from the tuna. Transfer the tuna to a medium bowl and loosen it apart using a fork.

Step 2: Add the onion to the tuna bowl along with the celery, garlic, parsley, mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and mozzarella cheese. Mix well. To taste, season with salt and pepper. Stir well until everything is incorporated.

Step 3: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.

Step 4: Spread butter on one side of the bread and place it in the hot skillet, butter-side down. On the bread, spoon around 3 tbsp of the tuna filling.

Step 5: Butter another slice of bread and place it over the sandwich, butter-side up. Grill the sandwich until golden brown. Then, turn on the other side and grill until golden brown.

Step 6: On a paper towel-lined plate, transfer the tuna melt. Serve and enjoy!

Notes:

To make a less soggy sandwich, place the tuna melt in a paper towel or a clean dish towel to wring out even more liquid.

You can also place hard butter in the middle of the frying pan and heat it until completely melted. When the butter has melted, spread it around the pan and place the bread directly on top.
