by Rebecca April 13, 2022

Prep time: 10 mins | Cook time: 35 mins | Total time: 45 mins | Yield: 1 LOAF

This Irish Soda Bread is one the best bread you can make at home using only three main ingredients! A bakery-quality loaf that everyone will love and enjoy.

I have tried other bread recipes, but this easily stands out. Super easy to make, requires only simple, pantry ingredients, and is ready in no time. It’s a pretty straightforward recipe. Anyone that tried this recipe could not believe that this is made without yeast! When I first made this traditional Irish soda bread, I was very surprised with the result! This turned out beautiful and delicious! I have been making this bread since. This Irish soda bread has been my family’s favorite homemade loaf!

If you have not tried this recipe yet. You should! This will exceed all your expectations!

INGREDIENTS

1 3/4 c. buttermilk

4 c. flour

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

HOW TO MAKE TRADITIONAL IRISH SODA BREAD

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 425 degrees. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and flour.

Step 2: Place the flour, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Mix well, then slowly whisk in the buttermilk until you have a slightly sticky dough.

Step 3: Onto a floured surface, turn the dough, and gently knead a couple of times. Shape the dough into a ball. Into the prepared pan, press the dough into a large disk. Make sure that the dough reaches the edges of the pan.

Step 4: Using a sharp knife, slice an “X” on top of the dough, around 1/4 inch deep.

Step 5: Using another round cake pan, cover the pan with the dough and turn the pan upside down. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, covered. Then, take the top pan off and continue baking for additional 10 minutes or until the crust is dark golden brown.
