table salt, to taste
How to make The Best Crispy Homemade Sweet Potato Fries
Step 1: Into 1/4-inch square fry-shaped pieces, cut the sweet potatoes. Make sure to cut the potatoes evenly as possible.
Step 2: In a bowl, place the sweet potatoes, making sure they are covered in cold water. Soak the potatoes for at least 30 minutes up to 12 hours. Take the potatoes out of the water when done soaking and pat dry with paper towels or a clean towel, then add them to a large bowl or zipper-top bag. Drizzle the potatoes with oil and toss to evenly coat.
Step 3: Combine the cornstarch, garlic powder, and smoked paprika in a small bowl and sprinkle this over the oiled sweet potatoes. Toss to coat.
Step 4: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 425 degrees F.
Step 5: On a parchment-lined baking sheet, spread the potatoes in an even layer. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes. Then, flip the potatoes using a spatula a piece at a time and continue to bake for another 10 to 15 minutes. When done, remove from the oven and sprinkle the fries with salt. Allow them to sit for at least 5 minutes. Serve warm. Enjoy!
NOTES:
Make sure not to skip any step. Slice the taters evenly, soak, coat, turn, and rest the fries before serving.
For the seasonings, you can use whatever you desire. The options are endless. You can try adding chipotle chilli powder to your seasoning and corn starch mix if you want a bit of heat.
Serve these fries with your favourite dipping sauce. I used equal parts of ketchup, mayo, BBQ, hot sauce, and mustard to make a wonderful dipping sauce.
In place of cornstarch, a great substitute would be arrowroot powder.
