1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter – softened
1/2 cup milk
SAUCE:
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups water
1/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
6 granny smith apples- cored and peeled
Extra cinnamon & sugar mixed inside the apples
How to make The Best Apple Dumplings
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Ready the apples. Peel and core them.
Step 3: Blend the flour, baking powder, and salt in a food processor a couple of times. Add the butter and milk and continue to blend until combined and a soft dough forms. Then, into 6 even pieces, cut the dough.
Step 4: On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough one by one in a circular shape.
Step 5: Combine the sugar and cinnamon. I did not measure the exact ratio for this.
Step 6: In the middle of the dough, place peeled and cored apple and sprinkle the hole with about a tbsp of cinnamon sugar. Shape the around the apple with your hands, moulding the sides of the dough towards the top of the apple. Make sure the whole apple is covered. Then, place them in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
Step 7: For the sauce, add the water, sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan. Whisk and heat until lightly boiling. Take off the heat and allow the sauce to cool for a little.
Step 8: Around the dumplings and just a bit over the dumplings, pour the sauce. Place the apples in the preheated oven and bake for about 50 to 55 minutes until tender. Baste the apples in the sauce halfway through baking time. To test if the dumplings are done, slide a slender knife inside.
Step 9: Remove from the oven and serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or milk. Enjoy!
