Ingredients
16 ounces pasta shells
2 pounds ground meat beef, chicken, and/or turkey
½ c. shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
Optional: Add 1/2 c. cream cheese, sour cream, or half and a half for a creamier sauce
15.5 ounces salsa
1 c. water or milk
1 (1 ounce) packet taco seasoning (add 1 extra packet for more flavour)
How to make Taco Pasta Casserole
Step 1: Following the package directions, cook the pasta. Drain when done and set aside. You can make this casserole in a Dutch oven for a one-pot meal.
Step 2: Cook the meat using a Dutch oven or cast-iron skillet until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease when done.
Step 3: To the meat, add the cooked pasta. You can also use a casserole dish if a Dutch oven or cast-iron skillet is unavailable. Simply transfer everything to the casserole dish and layer the meat.
Step 4: Over the meat, sprinkle the seasoning packet. Pour the water on top followed by the salsa. Stir well, then top with shredded cheese.
Step 5: Place in a 400 degrees oven and bake the casserole for about 18 to 22 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the sauce is bubbly.
Step 6: Remove from the oven when done and serve the casserole right away with your favourite taco-style toppings. Enjoy!
