This sweet almond pastry has been my favourite since I can remember! I remembered my mom making this for me when I was little. When I grew older, I tried making my version, and it came out amazing! Not only that this tastes super good every time, but it is incredibly easy to make using just six ingredients. I think chocolate and almond are a great combination, so you can also try spreading some Nutella over the almond mixture before braiding the pastry.

1/4 c. granulated sugar
1 large egg
7 ounces almond paste
1 sheet puff pastry
1/4 c. sliced almonds
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp water
HOW TO MAKE SWEET ALMOND PASTRY
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees F.
Step 2: Using parchment paper or Silpat, line a baking sheet.
Step 3: Place the egg and water in a small bowl. Whisk well until mixed and set aside.
Step 4: Place the almond paste, sugar, and vanilla extract in a food processor (or stand mixer). Mix well until combined.
Step 5: On the prepared baking sheet, unfold the pastry sheet and roll gently with a rolling pin until slightly thinner.
Step 6: After unfolding 1 sheet of pastry on the prepared pan, cut slits from the 2 sides of the pastry rectangle about 1-inch apart with half an inch of where the middle mixture will go. In the middle, arrange the almond paste mixture.
Step 7: Fold the pastry strips over the almond mixture diagonally on alternating sides, beginning at one end. Then, lightly grease the pastry with the egg wash and sprinkle with the sliced almonds.
Step 8: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Then, adjust the oven temperature to 375 degrees F and continue baking for an additional 17 to 20 minutes, until golden brown.
Step 9: Remove from the oven and allow the sweet almond pastry to cool for about 10 minutes on the pan.
Step 10: Slice and serve. Enjoy!
