I have never been to IKEA since the pandemic started. I wanted to, but let’s just say I am a bit scared. I am missing the Swedish Meatballs, though that I and my husband loved so much! Thus, this recipe here. My husband thinks that this is so much better, and my kids couldn’t agree more! Don’t believe me? Try this for yourself, and you’ll see.

Meat Balls:
1/4 c Panko bread crumbs
1/4 c milk
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 c yellow onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced or 1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp dry oregano or 1 tbsp fresh oregano
1 pound ground beef
1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 Egg
SAUCE:
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
2 cans beef broth
1 c heavy cream
1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
How to make Swedish Meatballs
Step 1: Thaw the frozen meatballs, then cook until brown.
Step 2: In a small mixing bowl, add the milk and breadcrumbs. Whisk until well combined.
Step 3: Place a skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 4: Add butter and oil, then allow it to melt and become hot.
Step 5: Add the onions and sauté for a few minutes until translucent.
Step 6: Add the garlic, oregano, and Worcestershire sauce. Sauté for about 2 minutes or until aromatic.
Step 7: Transfer the mixture into a large mixing bowl.
Step 8: Add the ground beef into the bowl as well as salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
Step 9: Scoop the mixture to about 1-inch balls. Make sure to add more butter or oil if necessary.
Step 10: Add the meatballs into the skillet and cook for a bit. Make sure not to overcrowd them.
Step 11: Remove the meatballs from the skillet and place them on a clean plate.
To Make the Sauce:
Step 1: Add butter into the same skillet and allow it to melt.
Step 2: Add the flour gradually and stir until the texture becomes thick.
Step 3: Add the beef broth gradually as well and whisk continuously.
Step 4: Add the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and heavy cream. Stir until just mixed, then allow the mixture to simmer until the texture becomes thick.
Step 5: Add the meatballs and cook for 10 more minutes.
Step 6: Serve and enjoy!
Note:
These meatballs are best served over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
