PREP TIME: 5 MINS | COOK TIME: 15 MINS | RESTING TIME: 5 MINS | TOTAL TIME: 20 MINS | SERVES: 4 people

If you are looking for another simple yet delicious meal to serve to your family, this easy recipe is a must! The steak is perfectly seared, then smothered in a crazy scrumptious homemade mushroom gravy from scratch.

INGREDIENTS

Salt and pepper, to season

4 8-ounces (225 g.) boneless ribeye steaks, 1” thick (or scotch fillet, sirloin, rump, strip, or porterhouse steaks)

GRAVY:

3 tbsp unsalted butter

2 large garlic cloves, minced

2 tbsp olive oil

1 onion (yellow, white, or brown), sliced

7 oz. (200 g.) brown mushrooms sliced

3 tbsp plain flour

2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

2 1/2 c. beef broth or stock

HOW TO MAKE STEAKS WITH MUSHROOM GRAVY

Step 1: Using a paper towel, pat dries the steaks. Season with salt and pepper according to taste.

Step 2: Add a little oil in a skillet or pan (or barbecue) and heat over high heat. Once the oil is just starting to smoke, add the steaks to the pan and cook for about 3 minutes per side. Remove from the oven when done and allow the steaks to rest for at least 5 minutes.

Step 3: In the same skillet, heat the rest of the oil. Add the onion and cook until clear. This takes about 2 to 3 minutes. Add the garlic and continue to cook for another 30 seconds or until aromatic.

Step 4: Now, add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for approximately 3 minutes or until golden, and it starts to soften.

Step 5: Adjust the heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt. Stir in the flour and cook for about a minute. Let the flour turn slightly browned.

Step 6: Add the beef broth or stock gradually to the skillet, stirring constantly. Let it simmer for about 4 to 5 minutes or until the mixture has thickened. Add the Worcestershire sauce and stir. To taste, season with salt and pepper.

Step 7: Return the steak to the pan along with the accumulated juices. Spoon over the sauce. Alternately, you can serve the onion mushroom gravy on the side of the steaks. If desired, garnish with some chopped thyme, parsley, or rosemary. Enjoy!
