With few simple ingredients and easy steps, you can whip this up quickly. Make this a day in advance and chill for the best results. Don’t forget to top with a dollop of whipped cream when serving for that extra goodness and presentation.

Ingredients

9” pie crust store-bought or homemade

1.5 pounds sweet potato about 2 medium sweet potatoes

¼ c. butter softened

¾ c. packed brown sugar

2 large eggs lightly beaten

½ c. evaporated milk

1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon ground ginger

¼ teaspoon salt

How to make Southern Sweet Potato Pie

Step 1: You can bake the sweet potatoes for about 45 to 50 minutes in a preheated 425 degrees F oven or in an Air fryer set to 400 degrees F for approximately 35 to 40 minutes. Also, if desired, microwave the sweet potatoes (prick them first before popping in the microwave) for about 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway.

Step 2: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees F.

Step 3: In a bowl, mash the sweet potatoes. Add in the rest of the ingredients and mix until well combined and smooth. Into the prepared pie pan, pour the mixture.

Step 4: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 to 45 minutes until the pie is set in the middle. Take the pie out of the oven and let it cool for at least an hour.

Notes:

Following the package or recipe direction, prepare the pie crust.

Make sure to cool the pie first before serving for best results.

Make this pie a day in advance and chill. Thirty minutes before serving, remove it from the fridge.

We don’t want liquidy and soggy sweet potatoes, so ensure not to boil them.
