If you want something simple and homemade, I would highly recommend these Sothern Fried Salmon Patties. It’s very easy to make, you just have to mix all the ingredients, then, form the mixture into patties, and fry. Literally, the simplest to make and they taste good, too! I serve these patties normally with some macaroni and cheese or with any side dish that you can think of. It’s my personal favorite, my go-to.
These salmon patties or salmon cake as what others call it reminds me of my childhood. My mom was crazy about these patties, she made it more than any other recipe. She served it with whatever side dish she can think of and these without fail always put a smile on our faces. When I grew older I asked her to teach me how to make these patties and I’m glad she did because this recipe saves me through lazy and busy days.

1 (14 3/4 ounce) canned salmon
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup flour
1 egg
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
How to make Southern Fried Salmon Patties
Step 1: To prepare the salmon, cut it, and make sure to drain the salmon thoroughly.
Step 2: Transfer the drained salmon in a mixing bowl. Use a fork to flake it evenly.
Step 3: Once flaked, add in the onion, cornmeal, flour, mayonnaise, and egg. Stir until incorporated.
Step 4: Shape the mixture about the size of a normal burger patty or even less. Do this for the rest of the mixture.
Step 5: Place the patties in a skillet with hot oil and cook them over medium heat. Cook both sides until browned.
Step 6: Once cooked, transfer the patties into paper towels to drain.
NOTE: If you are wondering, we use the mayonnaise to help the patties hold their shape and it prevents the patties from drying.
