Looking for a fun and filling way to serve and enjoy cabbage? This Southern Fried Cabbage is all you are looking for. Made with only four ingredients; cabbage, bacon, onion, and jalapeno peppers, this dish is pretty quick to make, and the ingredients come together in perfect balance!
This dish came to me as a surprise. I was browsing the net for easy, quick, and budget-friendly recipes, this caught my attention. I am always a fan of cabbage and my kids love this green veggie because it’s nutritious, versatile, delicious, and rather economical. And with bacon, I can’t stay away! This recipe calls for jalapeno peppers, but you can control the heat depending on how you like it.
Ingredients
1 head of cabbage
6 slice bacon
1 small onion, chopped
2 jalapeno peppers-chopped
salt and pepper to taste
How to make Southern Fried Cabbage
Step 1: Fry the 6 slices of bacon.
Step 2: In the meantime, core the cabbage, then chop along with the onions.
Step 3: When the bacon is done, remove the slices from the pan and onto a paper towel to drain.
Step 4: In the same pan, saute the onions in bacon drippings. Add the cabbage and stir to coat with onions and the bacon drippings. Cover the pan and decrease the heat to a simmer.
Step 5: Chop 2 jalapenos or more and seed if desired. Add this to the cabbage mixture along with the crumbled bacon. Season with salt and pepper. Stir before covering the pan.
Step 6: Cook until the cabbage is tender. Don’t fret if the skillet looks full as the cabbage will cook down. Give the cabbage mixture a good stir to prevent burning the bottom of the pan.
Step 7: When done, remove from the heat and serve immediately.
