Southern Chocolate Cobbler

by Rebecca September 16, 2022

Prep time: 5 mins | Cook time: 40 mins | Serves: 6

I am obsessed with the cakey crisp top of this cobbler with molten fudginess laying below. The lave-like chocolate surprise when you spoon it into it is crazy! This Southern Chocolate Cobbler is the ultimate, most decadent cobbler I’ve had in years! Fudgy chocolate with gooey molten bottom and impressive cakey, crispy chocolate top. I can never have enough chocolate in my life! I love to serve a slice of this cobbler with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for that extra layer of goodness!

Ingredients

BATTER:

2 c. all-purpose flour

4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 c. unsalted butter

1 c. milk

1/4 tsp salt

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 c. granulated sugar

TOPPING:

1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder

2 c. granulated sugar

Vanilla ice cream, for serving

3 c. boiling water

How to make Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F.

Step 2: In a 9 x 13-inch baking dish, place the butter. Let the butter melt in the oven. Take the baking dish out of the oven once the butter has melted and set it aside.

Step 3: Whisk 1 1/2 c. sugar, 4 tbsp cocoa powder, flour, milk, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined. Spoon this mixture over the melted butter in the baking dish. DO NOT STIR.

Step 4: Place the 2 c. sugar and 1/2 c. cocoa powder in another bowl. Mix well until blended, then sprinkle this over the batter. On top of the topping, pour the boiling water. DO NOT STIR.

Step 5: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes until the top is set. Do not worry if the bottom loosens and slightly gooey.

Step 6: Take the dish out of the oven when done and allow the cobbler to cool for about 5 minutes.

Step 7: Slice and serve. Enjoy!
