by Rebecca February 20, 2021

Prep time: 15 mins | Cook time: 45 mins | Total time: 1 hr | Yield: 24 cookies

Meringues are one of the simplest, easiest treats you can make. And with only four ingredients, these meringue cookies surely will not break your bank. These simple meringue cookies are not overwhelmingly sweet, super light, ethereal, and a real treat for all ages!

This cloud-like dessert just melts in your mouth, tingles your taste buds, and teases your sweet tooth. Feel free to add a pop of colours on these, or some peppermint extract if you desire, and serve these on any occasion.

Ingredients

2 Egg whites (room temperature)

1/4 tsp cream of tartar

A pinch of salt

1/2 c. sugar, superfine preferred, but not necessary

How to make Simple Meringue Cookies

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 225 degrees F.

Step 2: With parchment paper, line a baking sheet or two.

Step 3: Into a mixing bowl, add the egg whites and beat until frothy. Add in the cream of tartar, the pinch of salt. Continue to beat until soft peaks form. Gradually add in the sugar, a tbsp at a time while the mixer is running until the sugar has dissolved and stiff peaks form.

Step 4: Onto the prepared baking sheet, pipe or scoop tablespoons of the meringue. Make sure to space them at least 2-inches apart.

Step 5: Place inside the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes. Turn the oven off but leave the oven door closed. Allow the cookies to sit for about an hour before taking the cookies out.

Notes:

Let the meringues cooled to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container.

Serving depends on the size of the meringue cookies.
