Roasted Pork Belly with Honey

by Rebecca July 15, 2021

Prep Time: 4 hrs | Cook Time: 1 hr | Total Time: 5 hrs | Servings: 4

This homemade roasted pork belly with honey has a slightly savoury and sweet flavour. A well-balanced flavour that is so addicting! Prep this with no-fuss with just pantry ingredients. The key to best results is marinating the pork belly for 24 to 48 hours. So I suggest prep this a day before and cook the next day.

This recipe is a simplified version of the famous dish in the Southern part of China – the Roasted Pork Belly with Honey. Enjoy this without leaving your home using just the very basic home cooking sauces.

Ingredients

500 grams pork belly, around 1 pound

Honey water for brushing, 1 tbsp honey + 1 tbsp marinating sauce

2 garlic cloves, sliced

1 spring onion

3-4 ginger slices

Sauce:

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon cooking wine

1 tablespoon light soy sauce

1 teaspoon dark soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder

1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

How to make Roasted Pork Belly with Honey

Step 1: After cleaning the pork belly. Drain.

Step 2: Combine the sauce ingredients (honey, cooking wine, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, five-spicy powder, and ground white pepper) in a large bowl. Place the pork belly to the sauce. Place in the fridge and marinate for 24 to 48 hours.

Step 3: When ready to bake, prepare the oven. Preheat it to 200 degrees C.

Step 4: Whisk a tbsp honey with a tbsp marinating sauce in a small bowl. On both sides of the pork belly, brush the honey sauce. Place the roast in the preheated oven and roast for about 20 minutes. Flip and brush the other side of the pork belly with the honey sauce. Continue to roast for 10 to 15 minutes more.

Step 5: Remove the pork belly from the oven and let it cool down for a few minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
