Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 20 mins | Servings: 12 onion patties
Onion Patties are one of the easiest and quickest you can make. They are perfect to serve as an appetizer or snack with ketchup, salsa, ranch dressing, or any of your favourite dipping sauces. My kids love these onion patties so much because they taste like fried onion rings! And my family loves good old onion rings. Easily double or triple the recipe, especially if serving a big crowd. You could also keep these in the fridge for a few days and reheat them for a quick snack or weeknight dinner.
I’ve made these onion patties again last night, and as always, my family loves every bit of it! These are super light, crispy, and seriously amazing!

Ingredients
1 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp white granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp cornmeal self-rising or regular
2 1/2 c. chopped onions I used 1 1/2 large white onions, chopped
1 c. milk
1/2 c. cooking oil (for this recipe, I used Canola)
How to make Onion Patties
Step 1: In a large bowl, place the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cornmeal. Mix well until everything is incorporated. Add the chopped onions and mix well. Lastly, pour in the milk and stir using a spoon until well combined.
Step 2: In a skillet, heat the oil. Once it is hot, drop the mixture by spoonfuls and cook the first side until brown. Flip and continue to cook the other side. For this recipe, I used a 1/4 measuring cup to scoop the batter. If needed, add more oil to the skillet while frying.
Step 3: When done, serve the onion patties right away. Enjoy!
Notes:
If you want a bit of kick, you can add some garlic powder or hot sauce, or any other seasonings to the batter before cooking.
