1/2 lb. of small dry pasta (or use 2 cups of penne, if desired)
2 c. shredded or diced cooked chicken breast or raw, cooked with the onions
Olive oil
1/2 c. diced yellow onion
2 tbsp minced garlic
2 c. low-sodium chicken broth
1 10- oz. can Manwich Bold + 1 can of water
2 tbsp green onion sliced (optional, for garnish)
2 c. freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese
How to make One Pot Cheesy Chicken Pasta
Step 1: In a large pot, heat a little bit of oil. Once the oil is hot, add the onion and garlic to the pot and saute for about a minute. Add the cooked chicken and continue to cook for a few minutes more. Or begin with raw chicken and cook it with garlic and onion.
Step 2: To the pot, add the chicken broth, Manwich Bold Sloppy Joe Sauce, water, and pasta. Stir and bring to a boil. Then, put the lid on and decrease the heat. Simmer for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, stirring once after around 15 minutes. At 20 minutes mark, check the doneness. If there is still more liquid or if the pasta is quite al dente, carry on simmering, this time with the lid off.
Step 3: When done, remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the shredded cheddar well mixed. Remember to keep a handful of cheese aside for later. Replace the lid and let the cheese melt for a couple of minutes before stirring.
Step 4: Serve the chicken pasta right away garnished with some sliced green onions. Enjoy!
Notes:
If using raw chicken, cook the chicken about halfway through while cooking the onions until brown on all sides. The chicken does not have to be completely cooked. Then, carry on with the rest of the steps.
