by Rebecca December 3, 2021

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 1 hr | Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins | Servings: 6 About 1.5 cups each

This goulash is hearty and packed with flavour. A one-pot meal with pasta, beef, and homemade red wine tomato sauce. If you do not want to use red wine, you can always swap it with beef broth. This American Goulash is S=seriously good and super comforting you have to make sure not to miss it!

INGREDIENTS

1 yellow onion

4 cloves garlic

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound ground beef

1/2 c. red wine

1 15-ounces can tomato sauce

1 28-ounces can diced tomatoes

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 bell peppers

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

2 c. elbow macaroni (about 1/2 pound)

1/2 c. water

2 whole bay leaves (optional)

salt to taste

HOW TO MAKE ONE-POT AMERICAN GOULASH

Step 1: In a large soup pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the diced onions and minced garlic and saute until the onions are clear. Then, add the diced bell peppers and saute for additional 2 minutes.

Step 2: To the pot, add the ground beef. Cook over medium heat until the beef is completely cooked. Pour in the red wine and stir well to dissolve any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.

Step 3: Now, add the diced tomatoes with the juices in the pot followed by the tomato sauce, soy sauce, bay leaves, oregano, basil, crushed red pepper, and water. Stir until incorporated. Cover the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it is boiling, adjust the heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes, covered. Make sure to stir the goulash often.

Step 4: Add the macaroni to the pot after the sauce has simmered for 30 minutes. Stir and continue to simmer for an additional 10 to 12 minutes, stirring often until the pasta is tender.

Step 5: To taste, season with salt and discard the bay leaves. Serve the goulash right away. Enjoy!
