2 cups sugar
1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
1/2 to 1 teaspoon nutmeg (nutmeg is strong and you don’t need a lot)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch salt
How to Make Old-Fashioned Candied Sweet Potatoes
Step 1: Melt the butter in a large skillet or cast iron over medium heat.
Step 2: Then, stir in the sliced potatoes to the butter and toss to coat.
Step 3: In a bowl, mix the sugar, nutmeg, and salt.
Step 4: Add the sugar mixture into the potatoes, then, toss to coat.
Step 5: Lower the heat and simmer for at least an hour, covered, while stirring seldomly until the potatoes are soft.
