1 lb. shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tbsp butter
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
2 tbsp lemon juice (1/2 lemon)
1/3 c. beer, wine, or broth
2 tbsp creole seasoning
salt to taste
2 tbsp butter, chilled and cut into 1/2” pieces
1/4 c. hot sauce (or to taste)
How to make New Orleans BBQ Shrimp
Step 1: In a pan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, add the garlic and saute for about 30 seconds until aromatic. Then, add the hot sauce along with Worcestershire sauce, beer, lemon juice, creole seasoning, and pepper. Simmer and cook for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the sauce has been reduced by half.
Step 2: To the pan, add the shrimp and continue to cook for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side until completely cooked. Note that the cooking time of the shrimps varies depending on the size of the shrimp.
Step 3: Adjust the heat to medium-low, then stir in the chilled butter. Let it melt and season with salt.
Step 4: When done, serve the tasty sauce with french bread. Enjoy!
Notes:
To make things easier, you can remove the shells of the shrimps. Or just leave the shells with the heads still on if desired.
I recommend adding the (your favourite) hot sauce a little at a time until you reached your desired heat level.
Add the creole seasonings a little at a time as they have different amounts of salt. You can use homemade creole seasonings if desired. This way, you’ll have more control over the salt content.
Whisk the cornstarch with cold water until the lumps are gone and stir this into the sauce, instead of simmering to thicken the sauce.
Serve the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp garnished with some sliced green onions or chopped parsley if desired.
