Monte Cristo Sandwich

I always start my day with a light meal and my favourite cup of coffee. Lately, I have been loving sandwiches. I had Monte Cristo Sandwich for breakfast, and it was amazing! Monte Cristo sandwich is a delicious classic with layers of cheese, ham, and turkey sandwiched in bread that has been dipped in an egg batter and fried until both sides are golden brown. Before serving, I dusted the sandwich with powdered sugar and enjoy it with my favourite jam.

INGREDIENTS

4 Eggs

6 slices of sturdy white bread

4 tablespoons mayonnaise

4 slices ham

4 slices of Swiss cheese

4 slices turkey

1/2 cup milk

2 tablespoons yellow mustard

4 tablespoons butter

strawberry jam optional

2 tablespoons powdered sugar optional

maple syrup optional

salt and pepper to taste

How to make Monte Cristo Sandwich

Step 1: Place the slices of bread on a cutting board and slice off the crust.

Step 2: On two bread slices, spread the mustard and mayonnaise. Then, top each bread with a slice of bread and 2 slices of ham. On top of the ham, place another piece of bread. Add 2 turkey slices, cheese, and the final bread piece.

Step 3: Using the bottom of a frying pan or cutting board, press the sandwich.

Step 4: Place the eggs and milk in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Whisk well, then dip the sandwich into the mixture.

Step 5: Melt the butter in a skillet over low heat. Add the sandwich to the skillet once the butter has melted and cook for about 4 to 6 minutes until the first side is golden brown. Flip the sandwich and continue to cook the other side for 4 to 5 minutes more or until the cheese has melted.

Step 6: Transfer the sandwich to a plate. If desired, dust with powdered sugar. Serve the Monte Cristo sandwich with warm strawberry jam or maple syrup. Enjoy!
