A simple, light dish that is quick to make. Jamaican Steamed Cabbage is made with cabbage, onions, some shredded carrot, and some julienned peppers. Ingredients
1 Half Head Cabbage Sliced
1 Half Onion Sliced
1 Half Red Pepper Julienned
1/2 c Shredded Carrot
1/2 c Chicken or Vegetable Broth
1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 tablespoon Oil. Coconut, Vegetable, or Avocado oil
How to make Jamaican Steamed Cabbage
Step 1: Ready the onion, slice into quarter-inch pieces, then the cabbage and Julienne Red Pepper into thin slices.
Step 2: Over medium-high heat, heat a pan. Add oil. Once the oil is hot, add the onion and saute for about 3 minutes.
Step 3: Add in the cabbage. Saute for another 3 minutes.
Step 4: Pour in the chicken broth. Stir in the thyme, garlic powder, and black pepper until incorporated.
Step 5: Adjust the heat to medium, then cover the pan. Cook further until the cabbage wilt, about 5 minutes more.
Step 6: Uncover and add the red pepper and carrots into the pan. Stir to incorporate.
Step 7: Put on the lid again, then decrease the heat. Simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes until done.
Note:
Use vegetable broth instead of chicken if you want a vegan variety.
