I love this to the bone! I already made this three times this week and why not? This recipe is super easy to throw together and the ingredients are all readily available. Chunks of Italian sausages mixed with diced tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil, lots of red and green bell pepper, and onion – so much flavour in every bite! This scrumptious weeknight meal is perfect for the family. Want to serve this for breakfast or lunch? Be my guest. I know I did!
INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp Vegetable oil
1 pkg. Johnsonville Naturals Mild Italian Sausage
1 green pepper, thinly sliced
1 red pepper, thinly sliced
2 sweet onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 (14.5-oz.) can diced tomatoes
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
HOW TO MAKE ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS
Step 1: In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Step 2: Once the oil is hot, add the sausages and brown all sides. Remember that you don’t have to cook the sausages through.
Step 3: Set the browned sausages aside.
Step 4: Cook the onion and peppers to the grease that’s left in the pan over medium heat until soft. Stir in the garlic and cook for a minute more.
Step 5: Into 1 to 1 1/2-inch piece, slice the sausages.
Step 6: Add back the sausages to the pan along with the rest of the ingredients.
Step 7: Continue to cook the sausage for another 5 to 10 minutes until cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
Step 8: If desired, serve on hoagie rolls. Enjoy!
