Homemade Easy Focaccia Bread Recipe

by Rebecca February 6, 2021

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 13 mins | Total Time: 23 mins | Servings: 3 people

The perfect snack is toasted, or pair this crispy and tender Focaccia Bread with stews and dips.

Ingredients

1 c. all-purpose flour

¼ tsp salt

1 ½ tsp dry active yeast

1/2 tbsp sugar

1 1/2 tbsp olive oil

1/2 c. warm water (or less)

TOPPING:

Flake sea salt

1 tbsp rosemary fresh or dry

1 ½ tbsp olive oil

How to make Homemade Easy Focaccia Bread

Step 1: Mix the water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Cover and let it sit for at least 10 minutes until the mixture formed a froth. Or if using instant active yeast, you don’t need to proof and just proceed with the next step.

Step 2: Add the flour and salt in another bowl. Slowly add in the yeast mixture.

Step 3: Proceed to knead for about 5 minutes. Add in olive oil if the dough is smooth and not sticky, and continue to knead for another 3 minutes. Cover and allow the dough to rise for about an hour and a half in a warm place until the size is doubled.

Step 4: Once the dough has doubled in size, punch and knead it for a minute.

Step 5: Roll or pat the dough to make a triangle, round, or square shape. And transfer on a lightly greased baking sheet. If you want crispy focaccia, make the dough quarter of an inch high. Or for thicker focaccia bread, make it to half an inch high.

Step 6: Cover and allow the dough to rise for about 30 minutes.

Step 7: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 374 degrees F or 190 degrees C.

Step 8: Make a couple of dimples on the surface of the dough with your fingers.

Step 9: Coat the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with some flake sea salt and rosemary.

Step 10: Place inside the preheated. Bake for about 12 to 13 minutes until golden and crisp. Alternately, you can bake this focaccia in a 6 to the 7-inch pan if you want it thick and fluffy.

Notes:

For more flavour, I suggest using olive oil infused with garlic to brush the focaccia bread.

You can toast focaccia bread and spread roasted garlic and parmesan on top for a quick delicious snack.

Ready the dough the night before. Place it in a large container, cover tightly, and store in the fridge. While in the fridge, the dough will slowly rise. When ready to bake, remove the dough from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature. Knead for a minute, then allow the dough to rise.
