by Rebecca February 9, 2021

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 40 mins | Total Time: 50 mins | Servings: 4

A classic family meal made with ground beef combined with bread crumbs and seasonings, then cooked with mushrooms and onions in a rich, simple, and delicious sauce!

INGREDIENTS

Steaks:

1 lb ground beef

1 tsp soy sauce

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

½ tsp pepper

¼ tsp salt

1/3 c. bread crumbs

1 Egg

4 tbsp butter divided

Sauce:

8 oz mushrooms sliced

1 c. sweet onion thinly sliced

1 tsp garlic minced

3 tbsp flour

2 c. beef broth

1 ½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped parsley for garnish

HOW TO MAKE HAMBURGER STEAKS

Step 1: Mix the ground beef, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, salt, bread crumbs, and egg in a large bowl. Mix until just combined, then form into four equal patties.

Step 2: Melt 2 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, fry the beef patties for about 4 minutes per side until brown. Transfer the cooked patties onto a plate.

Step 3: In the same skillet, melt the rest of the 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Saute the sliced onions and mushrooms for about 5 to 6 minutes until soft and brown.

Step 4: Stir in the garlic and cook for a minute more.

Step 5: Over the mushrooms, onions, and garlic, sprinkle the flour, stir, and cook for another minute.

Step 6: Pour in the beef broth, then the Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Continue to cook while stirring frequently for about 5 to 6 minutes.

Step 7: Put the hamburger steaks back into the skillet with the juices and spoon over the gravy.

Step 8: Cover the pan, decrease the heat to simmer, and cook further for 10 minutes.

Step 9: Uncover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes more to thicken the sauce.

Step 10: Garnish with chopped parsley and serve. Enjoy!
