Meatloaf is every household’s best friend. And they differ only on what recipe they enjoy. Mine is this Granny’s Classic Meatloaf. Made with ground beef and a luscious meatloaf sauce, slathered on top, this I believe is one of the easiest meatloaf recipes you’ll ever make!

Meatloaf:
1 medium-sized onion (diced)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tbsp butter
2 lb. ground beef
1 large Egg
1 c. panko bread crumbs
1 c. milk
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp kosher salt
Topping:
½ c. ketchup
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp spicy brown mustard
How to make Granny’s Classic Meatloaf
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: For easy cleanup, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 3: In a saute pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the onions to the pan and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes until aromatic and s bit brown. Adjust the heat to low before adding in the garlic. Continue to cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Set the onions and garlic mixture aside to cool.
Step 4: Combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and cooked onions and garlic in a large bowl. Mix well using your hands, making sure not to overwork the meat.
Step 5: On the prepared parchment-lined baking sheet, shape the mixture into a loaf. On top, cut a criss-cross pattern using a sharp knife.
Step 6: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes.
Step 7: In the meantime, mix the ketchup with mustard and brown sugar in a bowl, then set aside.
Step 8: Over the meatloaf, spread the ketchup mixture after 40 minutes of cooking. Place the meatloaf back in the oven and bake for another 30 to 35 minutes until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reached 160 degrees F or 70 degrees C.
Tips:
Remember to mix the meatloaf until just combine and not overwork the meat.
Feel free to double the ketchup topping recipe.
Consider making the meatloaf flat to get that crunchy outer layer. And this also reduces the cooking time.
I suggest using a trusty meat thermometer to check if the meatloaf is done.
