by Rebecca June 9, 2021

INGREDIENTS

These sandwiches are beyond amazing! Toasted garlic buttered bun filled with Spicy tomato and sausage filling topped with melty mozzarella and provolone cheese. Seriously easy to throw together and the cheeses are super fun to watch as they bubbled then browned in the broiler.

Dinner does not have to be fancy or complicated. The ideal everyday meal for us is something we can easily and quickly make but still darn delicious. I have been drowning myself to work for the past few days simply because I have deadlines to beat. It drained me and I believe I deserve some indulgence after all the hustle and bustle. I have been craving cheesy, spicy sandwiches, and daydreaming about these Garlic Butter Italian Sausage Sandwiches. One bite of these garlicky, cheesy, Italian sausage sandwiches throws all the weary out of the window!

Garlic butter:

½ c. unsalted butter, room temperature

¼ c. finely chopped basil

¼ c. finely chopped parsley

1 teaspoon garlic paste (or 2 garlic cloves, chopped finely)

Italian Sausage Mixture:

1 pound ground Italian sausage

1 14-ounces can of tomato sauce

¼ c. red wine

salt to taste

1 tablespoon chopped basil

Sandwiches:

4 sandwich or hot dog buns

4 slices of mozzarella cheese

8 slices of provolone cheese

chopped red onion and basil for garnish

HOW TO MAKE GARLIC BUTTER ITALIAN SAUSAGE SANDWICHES

Step 1: In a bowl, combine the Garlic Butter ingredients until completely mixed. Set aside.

Step 2: In a large pan, cook the sausage until brown. Pour in the tomato sauce followed by the red wine, then let it simmer over medium-low heat for about 15 minutes. When done, take away from the heat and stir in the chopped basil. To taste, season with salt.

Step 3: To serve: On the inside and top of the buns, slather the butter. In the oven, slightly toast the buns until brown and the butter has melted. Over each bun, place a slice of mozzarella cheese, top with the Italian sausage mixture, then 2 slices each of the provolone cheese. Put the sandwiches under the broiler until the cheese begins to bubble. Then, remove from the oven, garnish with some chopped onions and basil and serve. Enjoy!
