French Toast Recipe

by Rebecca May 1, 2021

PREP TIME: 10 mins | COOK TIME: 20 mins | TOTAL TIME: 30 mins | SERVINGS: 4

French Toasts are a staple at home. I make it almost every day and especially on the weekend for breakfast or brunch. This recipe is a classic. The ingredients are a few but you can add more like sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla depending on how you like it. I serve these tasty French Toast with a drizzle of maple syrup but feel free to get creative. Throw in some fruits or enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream like my kids do.

INGREDIENTS

3 eggs

1 c. Milk see notes

2 teaspoons Sugar optional

1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon optional

1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence optional

8 Slices Bread see notes

Butter for frying

How to make French Toast

Step 1: In a mixing bowl, add the eggs and milk (at this point you can sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, if using). Mix well until combined.

Step 2: Melt half tsp butter in a medium-sized fry pan over medium heat.

Step 3: In the egg mixture, dip two slices of bread for about 30 seconds. Flip and dip the other side for another 30 seconds.

Step 4: In the frying pan, add the slices of bread and cook over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes per side. Make sure to check every a couple of minutes to ensure that the french toast is not burning.

Step 5: When the centre of the toast springs back once pressed, the French toast is cooked through. Do this for the rest of the bread slices.

Step 6: Before serving, drizzle with maple syrup. Enjoy!

NOTES:

sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla are optional ingredients depending on how you like your french toast.

You can use any kind of bread for this recipe. I used about an inch or 2 to 3 cm slices of bread.

For the bread, using more stale and dry bread the more it can soak up the custard mixture.
