Ingredients
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 lb lean ground beef
1 small sweet onion, diced
1/2 small green bell pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 c. ketchup
1/3 c. water
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp yellow mustard
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
Toasted buns, for serving
How to make Easy Homemade Sloppy Joes
Step 1: In a large skillet, warm the oil over medium-high heat. Add in the beef, onion, and bell pepper. Using a wooden spoon, break the meat and cook for about 5 minutes until the beef is cooked through and the veggies are tender. Add in the garlic, stir, and cook for another 30 seconds until aromatic. Then, drain the grease off.
Step 2: Add in the tomato paste and stir until completely incorporated.
Step 3: Stir in the ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Step 4: Continue to cook for 10 minutes more over medium heat until the mixture has thickened.
Step 5: Take away from heat, then serve the Sloppy Joes on toasted buns. Enjoy!
