Death By Chocolate Poke Cake

by Rebecca May 26, 2021

PREP TIME: 20 MINS | TOTAL TIME: 1 HOUR 10 MINS | YIELDS: 12 SERVINGS

The chocoholics are raving about this Chocolate Poke Cake. I am a little afraid of the name “Death By” but hey never mind that because this dessert is everything we need and want. Chocolate all over; chocolate cake, chocolate fudge filling, and chocolate buttermilk. Crazy chocolate but perfect in every way! A decadent dessert, a crowd favourite, and incredibly easy to whip up.

INGREDIENTS

CAKE:

Cooking spray

Cocoa powder

1 box chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients called for on the box

1 (14-ounces) can sweeten condensed milk

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted

Chocolate shavings, for garnish

FROSTING:

1 cup butter, softened

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

3/4 cup cocoa powder

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Pinch of kosher salt

1/4 cup heavy cream (plus more if necessary)

How to make Death By Chocolate Poke Cake

Step 1: To make the cake, first ready the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees. Using a cooking spray, grease a 9 x 13-inch pan, then dust with cocoa powder. Following the package directions, prepare the chocolate mix and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean. When done, remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely.

Step 2: Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke the cake all over. Then, in a small bowl, place the sweetened condensed milk and melted chocolate. Mix well and pout this into the holes.

Step 3: To make the frosting: Place the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl. Beat using a hand mixer, then stir in the heavy cream. You can add more tbsp of the heavy cream until you reached a creamy consistency that holds peaks.

Step 4: On the entire cake, spread the frosting using an offset spatula, then sprinkle with the chocolate shavings.
