by Rebecca February 24, 2022

PREP TIME: 20 MINS | COOK TIME: 6 HRS 15 MINS | TOTAL TIME: 6 HRS 35 MINS | SERVINGS: 4

Whenever I am craving a hearty, meaty dinner, I always gravitate to these Swiss Steaks that I can easily make in my crockpot. Tender beef steaks smothered in a rich tomato brown gravy with veggies. Pair this up with mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a satisfying weeknight meal that your entire family will love!

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil

1 ½ lbs round steak or cube steaks or minute steaks

2 cloves garlic sliced

½ onion sliced

¼ c. flour

14 ounces canned diced tomatoes, with juice

½ c. white wine

1 c. beef broth

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

2 carrots sliced into 1-inch pieces

1 stalk celery sliced into 1-inch pieces

corn starch for thickening optional

½ tsp dried thyme leaves

salt and pepper to taste

How to make Crockpot Swiss Steaks

Step 1: To the bottom of a slow cooker, add the sliced carrots, celery, onion, and garlic.

Step 2: Using a meat tenderizer, pound the steaks to about 1/4-inch thickness. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. In a shallow dish or plate, place the flour. Then, dredge each steak in the flour mixture.

Step 3: In a skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Place the steak into the hot oil and sear for about 2 minutes on each side until brown. If needed, add more oil to the pan.

Step 4: Pour in the wine and deglaze the bottom of the pan. Transfer everything to the slow cooker along with the rest of the ingredients (except the cornstarch). Put the lid on and set to cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours or until the pork is tender.

Step 5: When done, serve the Swiss steaks over mashed potatoes or noodles. Enjoy!

Notes:

You can sub the diced tomatoes for crushed tomatoes or even canned tomato soup if you want a smoother sauce.

Add an extra can of tomatoes for extra sauce.

This is optional, but you can thicken the sauce by stirring in a mixture of 1 tbsp of each cornstarch and water. Simmer the sauce for a few minutes until thickened.
