Prep Time: 15 mins | Cook Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 30 mins | Yield: 6 servings

Skip the takeout and make this easy and quick Crispy Sesame Chicken a try. A classic mall food that you can make at home even with your busiest schedule. You’ll see lots of versions of this famous dish online, but I guarantee you that this is the best one! Live over your mall food court childhood with every bite of this mouthwatering dish with crispy chicken smothered in a luscious sesame sauce. Make this in less than thirty minutes and serve over steamed rice.

Ingredients

Sesame Chicken Sauce:

1/4 c. soy sauce

1/4 c. rice vinegar

1/2 c. brown sugar

1 tbsp corn starch

1/3 c. water

2 tsp sesame oil

1/2 tbsp sesame seeds

Tempura Batter:

1/2 c. cornstarch

1/2 c. flour

2 Egg whites

1/2 c. cold seltzer water

Chicken:

1 pound chicken thighs boneless and skinless cut into 1-inch chunks

2 tsp sesame oil

1/4 tsp crushed red pepper

1 tbsp minced garlic

vegetable oil for deep frying

How to make Crispy Sesame Chicken

Step 1: Whisk the sauce ingredients (soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, corn starch, water, sesame oil, and sesame seeds) until well combined.

Step 2: For the batter, combine the batter ingredients (cornstarch, flour, egg whites, and cold seltzer water) until just mixed.

Step 3: To the batter, add the pieces of chicken and coat well.

Step 4: Heat 3-inches of oil to 350 degrees. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken and fry until golden brown. I suggest doing this in batches to not overcrowd the pan.

Step 5: Add the sesame oil in a large wok or skillet along with the garlic and red pepper flakes. And cook for about 30 seconds.

Step 6: To the wok, add the sauce and chicken and quickly coat. Before serving, garnish with sesame seeds. Enjoy right away.
