Ingredients
3 lbs country-style pork ribs (bone-in or boneless)
1 tbsp seasoning salt (homemade or store-bought)
1/2 c water
1/4 c apple cider vinegar
2 to 3 c barbecue sauce (homemade or store-bought)
How to make Country Style Pork Ribs in the Oven
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 300 degrees F.
Step 2: On a foil-lined baking sheet, put the ribs and sprinkle with the seasoning salt.
Step 3: To the bottom of the baking sheet, add water and apple cider vinegar. Grab a tin foil and cover the baking sheet.
Step 4: Cook the ribs for about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours, depending on the size of the ribs, until fork tender. Make sure to check the ribs after 2 1/2 hours. Resume cooking if not yet tender.
Step 5: When done, take the ribs out of the oven. Adjust the oven rack to at least 6-inches under the broiler. Then, set the oven to broiler.
Step 6: Transfer the ribs on a platter. In the bottom of the baking sheet, pour the fat and liquid. Place the ribs again on the baking sheet and brush with the barbecue sauce.
Step 7: Place in the oven to broil for about 3 to 5 minutes. Flip and brush the other sides of the ribs with the barbecue sauce. Broil for another 3 to 5 minutes.
Step 8: Do the same process to ensure that the ribs get a double coating of the sweet and sticky barbecue sauce. Pay attention to the ribs while broiling as they burn quickly.
Step 9: Once done, remove the ribs from the oven. Cover with foil and allow the ribs to rest for at least 10 minutes.
Notes:
Ensure to brush the ribs with barbeque sauce until the very end because if you brush them to the ribs too soon, the ribs will get watery under the foil.
In the last step, when basting the ribs with bbq sauce, raise the oven temperature on high to thicken and caramelize the barbecue sauce.
Adjust the cooking time by 30 to 40 minutes when using larger ribs.
If using ribs with a thick layer of fat. Trim the fat to 1/4″ thickness. We still need a bit to keep the ribs tender.
For country-style pork ribs, cook them low and slow to render out the fat. This will give you smooth and tender ribs.
For your reference, Country-style pork ribs are seldom labelled “Pork shoulder country-style ribs”.
