This classic holiday staple is screaming comfort! This easy Cornbread Dressing is super moist, delicious, and hard to mess up.
A friend gave me this very recipe years ago. She said that this is their family’s heirloom. I am so touched that she entrusted me with this. And from that moment on, this became my family’s favourite and a must every holiday. I even asked her permission if I can share this with you as well, and with a smile, she said, “why not!”. So here it is.
Made with only a few simple ingredients, you can also throw this together in a heartbeat! And with a light and fluffy texture and the perfect combination of sweet and savoury, this Cornbread Stuffing is perfect all the way through!
Ingredients
2 cups chopped celery
2 large onions, chopped
1 stick margarine
5 cups crumbled buttermilk cornbread (dry)
5 cups dry bread crumbs
6 cups turkey or chicken broth
1 stick butter
4 large eggs beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
3 teaspoons sage or to taste
1 teaspoon salt or to taste
1 teaspoon pepper or to taste
How to Make Cornbread Dressing
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 325 degrees.
Step 2: Ready a large baking pan. Grease it with Pam.
Step 3: Place the celery and onion mixture, melted butter, beaten eggs with cornbread, bread crumbs, chicken/turkey broth, poultry seasoning, sage, salt, and pepper into the prepared pan. Combine well.
Step 4: To start, the consistency of the dressing should be pretty soupy so it will get too dry when cooking. Add extra broth if needed.
Step 5: Cover and place in the preheated oven. Bake for about 35 minutes. Remove the cover and bake for another 10 minutes until brown and well set.
