It’s game day! Time to prep and get the boys ready. I will be making their favourite Classic Baked Italian Sub Sandwich. This sandwich is packed with salami and capicola hot ham with gooey provolone cheese and banana peppers. A perfectly baked sandwich that is so delicious and incredibly satisfying!
This sub sandwich is not only great for game days, but they are an excellent addition to your party spread. Serve this with any of your favourites, such as macaroni salad. Also, this sub sandwich is pretty versatile. I have seen posts that use different dressing for the Italian sub. As for me, I prefer provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, with a little mayo and some oil. But you can also add onions and extra hot peppers if you like more kick.

6 hero rolls, sliced length-wise but leaving both sides of the roll attached
18 slices capicola hot ham
18 slices salami
1 c. banana peppers, sliced
6 slices provolone cheese
Italian dressing, for serving
How to make Classic Baked Italian Sub Sandwich
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan, place the rolls open-side-down. Place in the preheated oven and bake the rolls for about 5 minutes. When done, take the rolls out of the oven.
Step 3: Onto the bottom of each roll, put 3 folded slices of capicola hot ham. On top, add a layer of 3 folded pieces of salami. Then, between the 6 sandwiches, split the sliced banana peppers. In half, fold each slice of provolone cheese, then break it into 2 pieces and place it over the banana peppers.
Step 4: Place the pan back in the oven and resume baking for another 20 minutes. When done, remove from the oven and serve right away with Italian dressing. Enjoy!
