If you are looking for an easy dinner idea that will make your family rush to the table, this simple recipe is what you need. Easy to whip up Chicken Fried Chicken that pairs so well with just about anything! These golden, crispy, and delicious chicken pieces smothered in a simple gravy with your favourite sides such as mashed potatoes or veggies are one heck of a meal that your family will absolutely love!

Ingredients

6-8 thin-sliced chicken breasts

2 c. flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 1/2 c. buttermilk

1 Egg

1 tablespoon hot sauce

Oil for frying

Gravy:

1/4 c. reserved oil from frying

1/3 c. flour

2 c. milk

Salt & pepper

How to make Chicken Fried Chicken

Step 1: In a large pan or deep fryer, heat oil on the stove to 325 degrees.

Step 2: Place the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl. Mix well until combined. Then, in a different bowl, whisk the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.

Step 3: In the flour mixture, dredge the chicken, dip them next into the egg mixture, then return into the flour mixture, pressing the chicken down the flour.

Step 4: Fry the chicken in the hot oil for about 3 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown. When done, transfer on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

Step 5: Add 1/4-inch oil from frying the chicken in a large pan and heat over medium-high. Now, stir in the flour for about a minute. Gradually add in the milk, stirring to incorporate until the gravy has thickened. To taste, season with salt and pepper. Now, on the individual chicken, pour the gravy and serve. Enjoy!

Notes:

Instead of a skillet, you can use a regular deep fryer to fry the chicken.

Feel free to use butter or bacon grease in place of the frying oil to make the gravy.

For this recipe, use either a thin-cut chicken from the store or regular chicken breast and simply slice it in half.

To the flour and gravy, add more or fewer seasonings depending on your preference.
