Dough:
1 ½ tbsp olive oil
1 ⅛ tsp active dry yeast
¾ c. warm water
1 tsp granulated sugar
½ tsp white vinegar
1 ½ – 2 c. bread flour, or all-purpose flour
¾ tsp salt
Topping:
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ tbsp salted butter
1 ¼ c. shredded mozzarella cheese
⅓ c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
How to make Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks
Step 1: Place half a cup of warm water, sugar, and yeast in a stand mixer. Mix well and allow the mixture to rest for about 5 minutes. Next, add the rest of the 1/4 c. warm water, olive oil, salt, and vinegar.
Step 2: Whisk the ingredients at medium-low speed. Slowly add the flour. Knead using your knuckles for a couple of minutes or until the dough is slightly sticky and smooth. Using a dry towel, cover the bowl and let the dough rest for an hour in a warm place.
Step 3: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 475 degrees F with a pizza stone inside. You can also use an upside-down cookie sheet instead of a pizza stone. Gently punch the dough. On a counter, lay a large piece of parchment paper. Spread the dough using a rolling pin or your hands into about a 1/3-inch thick rectangle.
Step 4: Place the melted butter and garlic in a small bowl. Mix well, then evenly spread the mixture over the dough up to the edges. Sprinkle with Parmesan and mozzarella on top.
Step 5: To the hot pizza stone in the oven, transfer the dough. Bake for about 8 to 12 minutes or until bubbly and golden.
Step 6: Remove from the oven when done and serve the breadsticks with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or marinara sauce. Enjoy!
Notes:
Make the dough about 3 to 4 hours before baking the breadsticks, and simply keep it in the fridge to rise.
If planning to freeze, prep the dough and grease with non-stick cooking spray. Place the dough in a freezer-safe bag and freeze for up to 2 to 3 months.
