Cabbage Casserole Recipe

by Rebecca April 5, 2022

Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 35 mins | Total Time: 40 mins | Servings: 6 people

This almost-quiche-like cabbage casserole with golden, cheesy crust filled with cabbage and herbs is one of the best cabbage dishes you can try today. The golden, cheesy crust is extraordinary! Serve this hot and fresh from the oven with a dollop of sour cream.

We love cabbage, and this casserole has been one of our favourite cabbage recipes. The creamy filling compliments the irresistible crust. This is our go-to winter that’s perfect all year round!

Ingredients

1/4 c. sour cream

1/4 c. mayonnaise

4 large eggs

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 c. all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon corn starch

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 pound green cabbage, (1/2 medium head or 6 c. finely sliced)

2 tablespoons dill, fresh or frozen, chopped

4 ounces mozzarella cheese, (1 1/2 c. shredded)

2 tablespoons green onion, finely chopped, plus more to garnish

How to make Cabbage Casserole

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch round pie dish.

Step 2: Place 4 eggs, 1/4 cup sour cream, and 1/4 cup mayo in a medium mixing bowl. Mix well until combined.

Step 3: Whisk 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp corn starch in a small mixing bowl until well mixed. Into the batter, mix the flour mixture until smooth.

Step 4: Into the second medium mixing bowl, place the thinly sliced cabbage and sprinkle with half a teaspoon of salt. To soften the cabbage, scrunch it for 30 seconds, then stir in 2 tablespoons each of green onion and dill.

Step 5: Over the bottom of the prepared pie dish, spread the cabbage mixture. On top, evenly pour the batter and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella.

Step 6: Place in the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for about 35 minutes or until the top of the casserole is golden.
