HOW TO MAKE BROWN GRAVY SMOTHERED HAMBURGER STEAKS
Step 1: In a large skillet or cast-iron skillet, heat the olive oil.
Step 2: Add the ground beef and the seasonings in a large bowl along with the diced peppers and onions, bread crumbs, and egg.
Step 3: Using a spoon or your hands, mix the meat until completely combined. Shape the mixture into patties about a size of a doughnut. Then, poke a little hole in the centre of each patty.
Step 4: On a plate or piece of parchment paper, place the patties.
Step 5: To the skillet, add the hamburger steaks once the oil is hot and fry for about 5 minutes per side. Note not to overcrowd the skillet and fry the patties in batches.
Step 6: When done set the hamburger steaks aside on a clean plate or parchment paper.
Step 7: Following the package directions, prepare the brown gravy in the same skillet. Pour in another cup or two of water to the sauce and add the Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
Step 8: After about 5 minutes or once the gravy starts to thicken, rest the steaks to the sauce and let everything simmer for about 20 minutes over low heat.
NOTES:
To cut the prep time, you can use pre-diced, frozen bell pepper, and onion mix.
Frying the hamburger steaks will help them to have a nice crust. The steaks will be completely cooked when returned to the gravy in the end.
