Bloomin’ Apples

by Rebecca June 9, 2021

PREP TIME: 15 MINS | TOTAL TIME: 1 HR | YIELDS: 4 SERVINGS

This fun dessert is inspired by our favourite blooming onion. Don’t be intimidated by how pretty these Bloomin’ Apples look because just like the blooming onions it’s super easy to make. You just have to be very careful cutting the apples to achieve the same look. Baked to perfection either in the oven or air fryer and served with a scoop of ice cream on top and caramel drizzle.

INGREDIENTS

Cooking spray

4 tablespoons melted butter

1 tablespoon packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

4 apples

8 chewy caramel squares

Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Caramel, for drizzling

How to make Bloomin’ Apples

OVEN DIRECTIONS:

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375 degrees. And using a cooking spray, grease a medium baking dish.

Step 2: Place the butter, sugars, and cinnamon in a small bowl and whisk to combine.

Step 3: Using a melon baller or a teaspoon, scoop the core out of the apples after slicing off the top. Create two circular cuts in the apples with a paring knife. Then, on a cutting board, place the apple cut-side-down. Slice the apples crosswise, making sure not to cut through the core.

Step 4: In a small baking dish, place the apples and fill them with two caramel squares. Brush the top of the apples with melted butter. Then, bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes until the apples are tender.

Step 5: Remove from the oven when done and serve the apples warm with ice cream and caramel drizzle. Enjoy!

AIR FRYER DIRECTIONS:

Step 3: With two caramel squares, fill each apple, then brush the tops with melted butter. In the air fryer basket, place the cut apples and bake for about 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Step 4: When done, serve warm with ice cream and caramel drizzle. Enjoy!
