How to make Salisbury Steak Recipe with Mushroom-Onion Gravy
Step 1: Combine the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic salt, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Then, form the mixture into 4 oval patties.
Step 2: Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties and cook for about a minute on both sides. When done, transfer on a plate.
Step 3: Saute the mushrooms and onion in the same pan with the beef juices over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes or until the onions are golden and the excess mushroom liquid evaporated.
Step 4: Add the garlic and butter into the pan and cook for a minute more.
Step 5: Stir in the flour until no more lumps before adding in about /2 – 1 cup of beef stock. Mix until combined.
Step 6: Adjust the heat to high and gradually add in the rest of the broth, whisking well until combined. To taste, season with salt and pepper.
Step 7: When the mixture begins to boil, adjust the heat to low. Continue to simmer, occasionally stirring for another 5 to 10 minutes or until the gravy begins to thicken.
Step 8: Put the patties back into the pan and coat with the gravy. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes more, often stirring until the patties are cooked to your liking. If desired, season with extra salt and pepper.
Step 9: Serve over rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
